We are Gemma Analytics: a Berlin-based company specializing in generating insights in high-performance data infrastructure. Gemma was founded in early 2020 by two data enthusiasts. Since then, we have helped over 70 companies become more data-driven and successful. Gemma Analytics is data-driven and assists clients in becoming more data-driven.

We love using dbt (data build tool) since 2018 — we can work without it, but we prefer to use it.

It is important to us that our work is version-controlled, peer-reviewed, includes data testing, and follows engineering best practices.

Data Visualization

For smaller businesses (< 100 FTE), we recommend Metabase or Superset as powerful open-source reporting tools.

For specific needs and centralized BI, we suggest PowerBI or Tableau.

For decentralized, self-service BI with more than 50 users, we recommend Looker, Holistics, or ThoughtSpot.

We are always exploring new tools; currently excited about Lightdash, Omni, dlt, and others.

Aufgaben

As an analytics engineer, you play a critical role in helping our clients generate business value from their data. You manipulate data to uncover detailed insights and find what others can't, collaborating with clients to find practical solutions.

You will have the opportunity to tackle challenging problems and help startups and SMEs make informed decisions based on data.

Responsibilities

• Work with multiple technologies, understanding the current possibilities in the data landscape.
• Collaborate with domain experts across industries to resolve data challenges.
• Develop advanced data reports and visualizations.
• Apply data modeling techniques and contribute to a robust data platform for clients.

Technologies you'll use

We work with a variety of state-of-the-art technologies, following an ELT philosophy, dividing tasks between Data Engineering and Analytics Engineering.

The Preferred Data Tech Stack

Data Loading

• Using schedulers like Apache Airflow or Prefect with Python DAGs; we also like dlt frameworks.
• Standard connectors such as Fivetran or Airbyte Cloud.

Data Warehousing

• PostgreSQL for smaller loads.
• Snowflake or BigQuery for larger datasets.

Profil

Requirements

We value a mix of experience and potential. For this role, first experience in writing production-quality SQL is required. We also appreciate curiosity, openness to learning, and a structured approach.

• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Business fluency in German and English (C2 or native).
• Optional: Programming experience (Python preferred).
• Optional: Experience with data visualization tools.
• Optional: Stakeholder or client management experience.
• Optional: Basic understanding of data modeling techniques like Data Vault or Kimball.
