Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH invites a student currently enrolled in a scientific or engineering program to join a 6‑month full‑time internship focused on coating lifetime stability. You will work with analytical labs and an interdisciplinary team to explore how manufacturing processes and cleanliness affect coatings, documenting results and refining test plans.

The role emphasizes hands-on laboratory methods, data handling, and opportunities to apply programming and machine learning.

Qualifikationen

• Current enrollment in a scientific or engineering degree program and willingness to complete a full-time internship for 6 months.
• Strong understanding of complex technical systems with analytical thinking.
• Hands-on experience with analytical laboratory methods (e.g., optical microscopy, SEM/TEM).
• Experience in data management and programming, plus knowledge in machine learning is a plus.
• Proficient in MS Office applications.
• Independent, thorough, and collaborative work style.
• Excellent German and good English, written and spoken.

Your Role

• Work as part of an interdisciplinary expert project team to investigate challenging questions related to the lifetime stability of coatings using a broad range of analytical methods
• Support the execution of experimental test series on coating lifetime to study the complex relationships between manufacturing processes, cleanliness, and cleaning procedures
• Conduct tests, document, analyze and present test results
• Contribute to the preparation and refinement of test plans

Your Profile

• Current enrollment in a scientific or engineering degree program and willingness to complete a full-time internship for 6 months
• Strong understanding of complex technical systems, combined with excellent conceptual and analytical skills
• Hands-on experience with analytical laboratory methods, e.g. optical microscopy, (FIB-)SEM, XPS, TOF-SIMS, AFM, STM, TEM, XRD, etc.
• Experience in data management as well as programming skills and knowledge in machine learning are an advantage
• Confident use of MS Office applications
• Independent, thorough, and collaborative way of working
• Very good German skills and good English skills, both spoken and written
