Intern (m/f/d): Propulsion (re-entry simulation capabilities)
Your Tasks

Re-entry Simulation Enhancement using DSMC-CFDCoupling and TITAN Framework

The propulsion departmentfrom OHB is looking for an intern to support the development of advancedatmospheric re-entry simulation capabilities. The goal of the internship is toextend the current DSMC-based re-entry simulation chain through the integrationof CFD solutions and the incorporation of the TITAN framework into thesimulation process. The intern will be fully integrated into the Analysis teamof the propulsion department. Current re-entry analysesrely on rarefied flow simulations to characterize high-altitude flightconditions. The internship will investigate hybrid CFD-DSMC methodologies to improve accuracy throughout the complete re-entry trajectory and establish anintegrated workflow using the TITAN framework.

  • Get introduced to theexisting DSMC simulation workflow and TITAN framework
  • Investigate CFD-DSMC coupling strategies for multi-regime atmospheric entryproblems
  • Implement interfaces between CFD solutions and DSMC simulations
  • Integrate TITAN into the existing simulation chain
  • Apply the methodology to representative spacecraft re-entry scenarios
  • Perform verification and validation studies on selected test cases
  • Document the developed workflow and analysis procedures
Your Qualifications
  • You are an enrolled student (m/f/d), e. g. in aerospace technology, physics, electrical engineering, computer sciences, business administration or comparable studies
  • First work experience such as successfully completed internships is desirable
  • Previous experience orstudies in CFD, DSMC, aerothermodynamics, or atmospheric re-entry modelling
  • Experience with OpenFOAM, SPARTA, or similar simulation tools is appreciated
  • Knowledge of numerical methods and high-speed flow physics is a plus
  • Programming experience in Python and/or C++
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to different technical topics
