YOUR FUTURE ROLE

Intellectual Property Advisor in the Global Patent Group

  1. Engage with internal client groups (product development, product marketing, corporate development, sales, corporate legal, etc.) to advise on IP issues and coordinate activities related to patent portfolio development, risk management (such as third-party disputes), and IP-related agreements.
  2. Build and manage a patent portfolio supporting one or more lines of business.
  3. Assist with IP due diligence activities, assessment of litigation risks, and evaluation of IP licenses and other agreements, supporting lines of business.
  4. Coordinate on strategic topics with other IP Counsel team members.
  5. Engage and manage outside counsel – no patent drafting or prosecution work required.
  6. Travel component up to 10%, including trips to various development locations.
YOUR PROFILE
  1. Must be admitted to the European Patent Office or German Patent Office (experience with US patents a plus).
  2. A university degree in a science/technology field is required (computer science, electrical engineering, or related degree a plus).
  3. Understanding of software patent practices and principles.
  4. Ability to apply knowledge of relevant industry trends and issues to day-to-day business planning.
  5. Ability to translate technology and market trends into strategies and recommendations to support SAP’s business objectives.
  6. Ability to travel internationally and work across cultural and language boundaries.
  7. Ability to manage projects in a complex, matrixed environment with virtual teams of high-level professionals.
  8. Strong technical, interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and writing skills to interact effectively with inventors, colleagues, and management.
  9. Strategic thinker with organizational savvy, results-driven, yet team-oriented.
  10. Native German and fluent English are mandatory.

Preferred experience includes patent drafting, prosecution, licensing, and litigation.
