Introduction

Our IBM Tech Sales Accelerator Program is designed for ambitious graduates, offering hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience within IBM Technical Sales. Over 12-24 months, you will work in Client Engineering, gaining critical skills before transitioning into your next career step as an Automation Technical Sales Engineer.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Automation Technical Sales Engineer, you'll work closely with clients to develop relationships, understand their needs, earn their trust, and demonstrate how IBM's industry-leading solutions will solve their problems while delivering value to their business. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the entire sales process by demonstrating our product portfolio, designing solutions to meet client needs, and running proof of concepts and pilots to showcase solutions in the client environment.
  • Working with existing clients to ensure proper use of technology and keeping them updated on the latest product developments.
  • Identifying new business opportunities within existing and new clients.

During your trainee phase, you will start in Client Engineering as a Platform Engineer, developing trusted relationships, working with clients and colleagues to shape their technology landscape, creating pilots, and contributing to IBM’s growth and innovation. You will combine technical education with consultative sales practices to accelerate enterprise success through Automation, Data, and AI solutions.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Pilot Development: Developing pilots to validate and demonstrate the feasibility of Automation solutions, collaborating with development teams, and following IBM’s Pilot Engineering Methodology to solve complex business problems using IBM hybrid cloud and AI technology.
  • Collaboration and Project Management: Working with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution and delivery of solutions, and communicating progress and risks effectively.
  • Customer Engagement and Support: Acting as a technical contact for customers, providing support during pilot deployment, and guiding on scaling pilots into production.
  • Industry Trends and Innovation: Staying current with technological advancements and evaluating emerging tools and frameworks for solution design.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Completed technical degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related), obtained within the last 3 years.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; proficiency in English and German.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud and automation technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of virtualized on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Experience in automation workflows for applications and infrastructure deployment.
  • Participation in customer-facing technical teams across various cloud architectures.
  • Understanding of agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency in at least one cloud-native programming language (Java, Python, HCL, Rust, Ansible, etc.).

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • First work experience in IT or technical sales.
  • Interest and knowledge in Business and IT Automation, infrastructure automation (HashiCorp, RedHat), and Application Modernization & Integration (DevOps, Kafka, APIs, Containers).
  • Training on IBM's Automation offerings will be provided.
