Introduction

Are you looking to kick-start your career in technology with a structured development path and fast-track growth opportunities? Our IBM Tech Sales Accelerator Program is designed for ambitious graduates, offering hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience within IBM Technical Sales. Over 12-24 months, you will work in Client Engineering, gaining critical skills before transitioning into your next career step as an Automation Technical Sales Engineer.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Automation Technical Sales Engineer, you'll work closely with clients to develop relationships, understand their needs, earn their trust, and demonstrate how IBM's industry-leading solutions can solve their problems while delivering value to their business. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the entire sales process by demonstrating our product portfolio, designing solutions to meet client needs, and running proof of concepts and pilots to showcase solution effectiveness in the client’s environment.
  • Working with existing clients to ensure proper use of our technology and keeping them updated on the latest product developments.
  • Identifying new business opportunities within existing and new clients.

During your trainee phase, you will start in Client Engineering as a Platform Engineer, developing trusted relationships, working with clients and colleagues to shape their technology landscape, creating pilots, and contributing to IBM’s growth and innovation. You will combine technical education with consultative sales practices to accelerate enterprise success with solutions across Automation, Data & AI.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing pilots to validate and highlight the feasibility of Automation solutions, collaborating with development teams to implement and refine pilots following IBM’s Pilot Engineering Method, which emphasizes human-centered and design-led approaches.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including AI engineers, platform engineers, and project managers, to ensure smooth project execution and delivery of AI and Automation solutions, while effectively communicating progress and risks.
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for customers, providing support during pilot deployment, and guiding on scaling solutions into production.
  • Staying updated on industry trends and evaluating emerging technologies for potential integration into solutions.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Completed technical degree (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems) within the last 3 years.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English and German.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud and automation technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of virtualized on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Experience in automation workflows for application and infrastructure deployment.
  • Participation in customer-facing technical solutions across various cloud architectures.
  • Understanding of agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency in at least one cloud-native programming language (Java, Python, HCL, Rust, Ansible, etc.).

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • First work experience in IT or technical sales.
  • Knowledge in IT-Automation (AIOps, Cloud Cost Management, Observability, Cloud & IT operations).
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (HashiCorp, RedHat).
  • Knowledge of Application Modernization & Integration (DevOps, Kafka, APIs, Containerization).
