Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced Protection & Switchgear Commissioning Engineer to support the testing, integration and commissioning of protection, control, switchgear and associated electrical systems for HVDC, high‑voltage transmission and substation projects.

The ideal candidate combines a strong foundation in electrical/power engineering with practical commissioning experience involving protection relays, high‑voltage equipment, switchgear, control systems and electrical testing.

The role requires a hands‑on engineering mindset, strong troubleshooting capabilities and the ability to work effectively with engineering teams, customers, suppliers and site personnel. Candidates should be comfortable working in test facilities as well as at project/construction sites and be willing to undertake international and potentially long‑term site assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform testing, integration and commissioning of protection, control and switchgear systems for HVDC, high‑voltage transmission and/or substation projects.
  • Configure, test and commission protection relays, field control devices and associated control systems.
  • Perform functional testing and verification of:
    • Protection functions and schemes
    • Interlocking and locking logic
    • Control sequences and step chains
    • Field control units
    • Protection and control interfaces
  • Execute testing using appropriate secondary injection and electrical test equipment, such as Omicron or comparable tools.
  • Support the testing and commissioning of HV primary equipment and switchgear, including associated control and protection interfaces.
  • Where applicable, support commissioning of AC/DC auxiliary power systems, including MVAC/LVAC, LVDC, auxiliary transformers, batteries, UPS and automatic transfer systems.
  • Conduct integration tests, functional tests, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and performance verification activities.
  • Prepare, execute and maintain commissioning procedures, test plans, test records, checklists and other verification documentation.
  • Analyze test results, identify technical faults and independently troubleshoot protection, control and electrical system issues.
  • Support customer acceptance activities and resolution of technical issues during factory and site commissioning.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, customers, suppliers and other commissioning disciplines to ensure successful system integration and handover.
  • Support project requirements relating to quality, EHS/safety, risk, schedule and continuous improvement.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to improvements in commissioning processes and practices.

We are known for our extraordinary people who make the impossible possible every day. Questians are driven by hunger, humility, and aspiration. We believe that our company culture is the key to our ability to make a true difference in every industry we reach.
