A leading company in technology is seeking a leader to establish and run a new Synthetic Biology department. This pivotal role includes managing innovation, coordinating stakeholders, and analyzing market opportunities, ideally suited for candidates with strong academic and professional backgrounds in relevant fields.
Responsible for establishing and independently running Beyond Technology Field SynBio Department with the target to create ZEISS capabilities for all segments or serve as the basis for a new SBU.
Accountable for results and reports directly to the Innovation Board (CEO, HoCRT, SBUs). Represents SynBio internally and externally for ZEISS, including relationship management with German and European authorities.
Designs, establishes, and implements the organizational and operational backbone of Beyond Technology Field Synthetic Biology.
Manages results and reports into the Innovation Board (CEO, HoCRT, SBUs).
Continuously evaluates all ongoing Beyond Technology SynBio activities regarding budget, timing, and impact from both internal and external perspectives.
Identifies and evaluates new potential business opportunities, leading to proposals for new Beyond Market Fields.
Orchestrates and coordinates stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem, especially with the Senior Expert Team and Leadership Team, concerning Beyond Technology Fields.
Coordinates multiple strategic projects to identify and detail potential Beyond Market Fields. Prepares and presents decision materials (e.g., presentations) for large investment and business projects to the Venture Board, Executive Board, and if necessary, the Supervisory Board.
Your profile
A degree with excellent grades in natural science, life science, engineering, or economics—PhD or MBA is a plus.
Long-term professional experience in innovation or technology-driven global companies or biological/pharma-driven companies.
Several years of experience leading innovation teams and managing complex projects as a project manager.
Modern leadership experience.
Experience with startups or venture activities and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Outstanding analytical skills and outside-the-box thinking.
Experience in lateral leadership in medium and large project settings.
Strategic and exploratory mindset and capabilities.
