The Role: Head of Software Development

The client is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Software Development to lead a talented team of C++ developers and embedded systems engineers. This is a high-impact leadership role with responsibility for software architecture, team development, and the integration of software with complex packaging machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the internal software development team, including embedded, C++, and automation-focused engineers
• Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of software across all product lines
• Define and maintain robust, scalable software architecture for packaging platforms
• Introduce and improve development processes (e.g. CI / CD, version control, agile workflows)
• Ensure seamless collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams
• Mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Align software development efforts with broader product strategy and customer requirements

Candidate Profile

Must-Have Qualifications :

• Several years of experience leading software or embedded development teams
• Strong technical background in C++ and embedded systems, preferably within automation, industrial machinery, or mechatronics
• Experience in system integration, ideally with exposure to real-time systems and industrial protocols (e.g. CAN, EtherCAT, Modbus)
• Strong project management and communication skills
• Fluent in English; German is a significant advantage
