The Head Grower will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the cultural program to ensure successful crop production and harvest in a safe environment. In collaboration with the Production Manager, the Head Grower will aim to maintain or improve growing practices and operations, with objectives to reduce costs, enhance plant health, increase yield, and improve patient satisfaction.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate production schedules and communicate changes effectively;
  • Ensure all personnel under supervision are trained, have signed relevant SOPs, and follow them;
  • Communicate with the Production Manager in a timely manner regarding schedule or cultural program changes;
  • Monitor and document plant development, and report concerns to the Production Manager or Master Horticulturist;
  • Chair Grower’s Meetings as requested by the Production Manager;
  • Train or oversee the training of new growers according to our Best Practice document, IPM, and Fertigation protocols;
  • Provide leadership in problem-solving and conflict resolution;
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant workplace;
  • Keep the Best Practice Document updated;
  • Schedule and oversee de-leafing activities;
  • Provide weekly crop status summaries to the Production Manager or Master Horticulturist;
  • Perform additional tasks as required by the Production Manager;
  • Weekend work and shift work may be required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Degree (diploma or higher) in Horticulture;
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in large-scale (>4 acres) crop production;
  • Good organizational and communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
