This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment. We also offer relocation support.

The EIB, the European Union's bank, in the framework of its GRAD programme, is seeking to recruit for its Chief Financial Controller Directorate (CFC), Financial Reporting and Accounting Department (FRA), Bank Reporting Division (BRD), Lending Accounting Unit (LAU) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Graduate – Financial Accounting*.

Depending on business needs, the incumbent may also be rotated within the Chief Financial Controller Directorate, gaining exposure and experience in the different business areas and processes.

The term of this contract will be 1 year; as this is a temporary replacement assignment, no extension or conversion of the contract is foreseen.

Purpose

The financial reporting and accounting department is responsible for preparing the financial statements and the accounting of the Bank, of the EIB Group and of mandates under EIB management, including other related internal and external financial reports (e.g. Agreed upon Procedures reports, Management reports)

In your day-to-day activities you will execute or carry out daily checks/controls/verifications in the area of accounting and reporting in order to ensure the true and fair view of the financial position of the Bank, of the Group and of the mandates.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Lending Accounting Unit. You will work in close co-operation with other staff in CFC and other Divisions in almost all Directorates of the Bank as well as with EIF. You might have exposure to various external counterparts such as the European Commission, other mandators and the Bank’s external auditors.

Accountabilities

  • Carry out accounting and reporting processes to ensure the accurate and timely production of financial statements and other financial reports in compliance with applicable reporting standards.
  • Document the control framework and execute the relevant controls aimed at a prompt detection of any anomaly in accounting and reporting.
  • Verify/analyse report of transactions generated by upstream applications, ensure the correct booking of the operations in the general ledger, so that completeness and accuracy of financial statements are ensured.
  • Propose and implement corrective actions and/or improvements related to accounting and reporting issues.
  • Participate in projects of the unit, assist in testing and analysis of results and contribute to the implementation.
  • Assist in audit preparation and support during the audit process.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in accounting, finance or related fields.
  • No more than two years of relevant professional experience after graduation (summer jobs and internships should not be counted). Professional experience in Audit, Accounting, Financial Control, areas would be an advantage.
  • Deep understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and EU Accounting Directives, deep understanding of Accounting Rules adopted by the Officers of the European Investment Bank, of the European Investment Bank Group (IFRS and European Accounting Directive) and of the European Commission (EC Accounting Rules and IPSAS) will be an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting software architecture.
  • Analytical skills and proven track record of a rigorous analytical work.
  • Good knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Excellent numerical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of English. French would be an advantage. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
