The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Global Process Safety Officer EHS (m/f/*), you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. You will make an impact by:
- Providing leadership and strategic direction for process safety to achieve sustained safety performance improvements globally.
- Improving and refining process safety standards, including training, tools, communication, and audit requirements for topics such as mechanical integrity, process safety information, and facility siting, and providing guidance to implement process safety expectations.
- Leading and defining requirements to facilitate process safety and hazard assessment reviews, including LOPA scenarios, reactive chemical scenarios, and management of change requests.
- Reviewing, supporting, and approving process safety assessment strategies for HAZOP, LOPA, etc.
- Reviewing and approving process safety technology to mitigate process safety risks in partnership with manufacturing technology leadership, and developing a program for process safety reviews and scope approval for related CAPEX projects.
- Leading incident investigations, reviewing root causes for all process safety incidents and near misses, ensuring action items are completed, documented, and learnings are shared across facilities to prevent future incidents.
- Leading and participating in global process safety audits.
- Leading internal process safety networks to connect and coach SMEs globally, and facilitating new leader PHA reviews to ensure understanding of risks in line with roles and responsibilities.
- Collaborating across global EHS, operations, engineering, R&D, legal, occupational health, and external stakeholders to drive EHS performance excellence and share best practices.
- Fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, attention to detail, and standard work to promote open communication, project management, prioritization, and a proactive approach to compliance and risk reduction.
- Leading external benchmarking and trade association engagement to identify and integrate new techniques and technologies for EHS improvement.
Your Skills and Expertise
To succeed in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum):
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or science.
- Fundamental process safety experience in various environments (private, public, government, military).
Additional qualifications that could enhance your success include:
- Supervisory or management experience.
- Expertise in hazard assessment tools, risk control programs, and process technology hazards.
- Experience with global, regional, or state process safety regulations.
- Strategic thinking, high attention to detail, process orientation, strong communication skills (multi-lingual a plus), clear writing, and self-motivation.
- Project management skills and resource management ability.
- Experience in process engineering, design engineering, or manufacturing.
- Expertise in EHS disciplines such as worker safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental compliance.
- Master’s degree or higher in relevant disciplines from an accredited institution.
- Certifications such as PE, CSP, CIH, QEP, or related EHS credentials.
Travel: May include up to 30% domestic/international travel.
