RINA is currently recruiting for a Germany Marine Surveyor to join its office in Hamburg within the North Europe Marine Division.

Mission

A Surveyor in a classification society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine assets. The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related Rules, Regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes.
  2. Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys performed.
  3. Maintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.
  4. Maintains active awareness of new working methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities.
  5. Recommends new approaches to problems encountered.
  6. Performs routine surveys on classed ships, platforms or other marine structures and at manufacturers sites for compliance with classification and statutory requirements.
  7. Engages in contact with clients to solve problems within area of expertise.
  8. Ensure vessels comply with international regulations (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL) and classification society rules.
  9. Liaise with shipowners, charterers, insurance companies, and port authorities.
  10. Support audits for ISM / ISPS / MLC compliance where required.
  11. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent seagoing experience).
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Marine Surveyor or in a relevant marine engineering / officer role.
  3. Solid understanding of vessel engineering systems, marine machinery, and international maritime regulations.
  4. Good proficiency of German and English, both spoken and written.
  5. Proficiency in survey-related software and general technical tools.
  6. Strong communication skills and a collaborative, client-focused attitude.
  7. High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  8. Well-organized, proactive, and able to manage time and documentation effectively.
  9. Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
  10. Valid driver's license and passport.
