As a Senior Preconstruction Manager, you will be part of the Design and Construction team within Amazon Global Engineering Services (GESS), shaping the future of the construction industry. We push boundaries, driving innovative, standardized, and scalable solutions to deliver high-quality buildings that meet customer needs, prioritizing safety, people, and sustainability.

This role offers opportunities to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures. The position is based anywhere in Europe, with approximately 30% travel domestically and internationally within the EMEA region.

Key job responsibilities:

1. Manage complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection through design, permitting, and contract execution, coordinating with design teams and stakeholders.
2. Maintain scope control and accelerate progress through timely decision-making, blocker resolution, and escalation.
3. Communicate effectively with internal and external teams, weigh risks, and influence outcomes.
4. Oversee professional service providers to ensure their skills meet project needs.
5. Perform pricing reviews, negotiate costs with developers, contractors, and consultants.
6. Estimate costs, manage due diligence, track schedules, and forecast project outcomes.
7. Supervise the implementation of Amazon's safety programs and standards.
8. Drive accountability and high standards among team members.
9. Negotiate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.

Basic qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with demonstrable experience in project management within construction or related disciplines.
• Experience managing projects from design to operation, including negotiating contracts.
• Experience with packaging processing/logistical facilities or similar complex equipment.
• Fluent in German and English.
• Willingness to travel frequently across Europe, up to 30% of the time.

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or STEM.
• Experience in multiple construction disciplines such as general contracting, owner’s representation, or engineering.
• Proven ability in planning, design review, and project control of new and existing facilities.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design projects involving automation or robotics.
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
• Excellent communication skills across various audiences.
• Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
• Participation in Amazon's new fulfillment center launches.
• Additional language skills (French, Polish, Arabic) are a plus.

A day in the life:

You will oversee Amazon's construction projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution while improving processes, costs, quality, safety, and sustainability. Leading and mentoring teams, you will communicate across departments, negotiate contracts, and manage project risks and issues, acting as the primary escalation point.
