As a Senior Preconstruction Manager, you will be part of the Design and Construction team within Amazon Global Engineering Services (GESS). Our goal is to shape the future of the construction industry by delivering high-quality buildings efficiently, prioritizing safety, people, and sustainability.

This role offers the opportunity to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures, with approximately 30% travel within Europe and EMEA regions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection to design completion, permitting, and contract execution.
• Controlling project scope, driving decisions, resolving blockers, and escalating issues appropriately.
• Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders, assessing risks, and influencing outcomes.
• Overseeing professional service providers to ensure skill and competency alignment.
• Performing pricing reviews, negotiating costs with contractors, developers, and consultants.
• Estimating costs, managing due diligence, tracking schedules, and forecasting to ensure successful project handover.
• Supervising Amazon's safety programs and standards.
• Driving accountability and high standards within the team.
• Negotiating with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.

Basic qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with proven experience in project management from design to operation.
• Experience in packaging processing/logistics facilities or similar complex equipment environments.
• Fluency in German and English.
• Willingness to travel frequently across Europe, up to 30% of the time.

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, or business administration.
• Experience in multiple construction disciplines, including general contracting, owner’s representation, or engineering.
• Proven ability in planning, design review, and project control of new and existing facilities.
• Experience with industrial automation and robotics integration.
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
• Excellent communication skills with diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
• Experience with Amazon's new fulfillment center launches is a plus.
• Additional language skills such as French, Polish, or Arabic are advantageous.

A day in the life:

You will oversee on-time, within-budget execution of Amazon construction projects, improving processes and performance. Leading cross-functional teams, you will motivate staff, communicate across organizational levels, and address project gaps with effective solutions. You will negotiate contracts, conduct site validations, manage risks, and ensure compliance with zoning, fire, and building codes. Acting as the primary escalation point, you will own issue resolution and project feasibility assessments, using your influence to manage teams effectively.
