As a Senior Preconstruction Manager, you will be part of the Design and Construction (D&C) team within Amazon Global Engineering services (GESS), shaping the future of the construction industry. We focus on innovative, standardized, and scalable solutions to deliver high-quality buildings and capacity to meet customer needs, prioritizing safety, people, and sustainability.

This role involves travel within Europe, approximately 30% of the time, to various countries.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Managing complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection through design, permitting, and contract execution, coordinating with design teams and stakeholders.
2. Controlling project scope, making timely decisions, clearing blockers, and escalating issues when necessary.
3. Communicating effectively with internal and external teams, weighing risks, and influencing outcomes.
4. Overseeing professional service providers to ensure skills meet project needs.
5. Performing pricing reviews, negotiating costs with developers, contractors, and consultants.
6. Estimating costs, managing due diligence, scheduling, and forecasting to ensure successful project handovers.
7. Supervising safety program implementation and standards.
8. Driving accountability and high standards within the team.
9. Negotiating with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.

Basic qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with proven experience in project management from design to operation.
• Experience in packaging processing/logistics facilities or similar complex equipment environments.
• Fluent in German and English.
• Willing to travel frequently across Europe, up to 30% of the time.

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or STEM.
• Experience across multiple disciplines within the construction industry.
• Proven ability in planning, design review, and project management of new and existing facilities.
• Experience with industrial automation, robotics, or similar technologies.
• Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
• Effective communication with diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
• Participation in Amazon's FC launches or similar projects is a plus.
• Languages such as French, Polish, or Arabic are advantageous.

A day in the life:

You will ensure on-time, on-budget project execution, improve processes, costs, quality, safety, and sustainability. Leading and mentoring cross-functional teams, you will communicate across organizational levels, identify gaps, and propose solutions. You will negotiate contracts, conduct site validation, risk analysis, design management, and stakeholder engagement, acting as the primary escalation point for project feasibility and issue resolution, with excellent communication skills for all levels of management.
