As a Senior Preconstruction Manager, you will be part of the Design and Construction team within Amazon Global Engineering Services (GESS). Our vision is to shape the future of the construction industry by pushing boundaries, driving innovative, standardized, and scalable solutions to deliver high-quality buildings that meet customer needs, with safety, people, and sustainability at the core.
This role offers the chance to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures, with approximately 30% travel within Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection through design, permitting, and contract execution, coordinating with design teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain scope control, drive timely decisions, identify and resolve blockers, and escalate issues as needed.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external teams, influence results, and manage risks.
- Oversee service providers to ensure skills meet project needs.
- Perform pricing reviews, negotiate costs with developers, contractors, and consultants.
- Estimate costs, manage due diligences, track schedules, and forecast project outcomes.
- Supervise safety program implementation and management.
- Uphold high standards and drive accountability.
- Negotiate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven project management experience from design to operation, including negotiating contracts.
- Experience in packaging processing/logistics facilities or similar.
- Fluent in German and English.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Europe.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain, or related STEM fields.
- Experience in at least two construction disciplines.
- Experience with industrial automation, robotics, or similar.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills with diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
- Participation in Amazon FC launches or multilingual skills (French, Polish, Arabic) are a plus.
A Day in the Life:
You will oversee Amazon's construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget, while improving processes, costs, quality, safety, and sustainability. You will lead cross-functional teams, communicate across departments, and act as a primary point of escalation for project issues. Your tasks include site validation, due diligence, design management, contract negotiations, and stakeholder management. You will also coordinate with zoning, fire, and building codes, and influence project teams to resolve issues effectively.
