The Max Planck Graduate Center for Quantum Materials (MPGC-QM) currently has an open call for multiple fully funded PhD student positions.
Six Max Planck Institutes (Dresden, Erlangen, Hamburg, Halle, and Stuttgart) — all leading institutions in their fields — collaborate on research in quantum materials, offering a unique graduate program in this exciting area.
Additionally, we offer a limited number of joint PhD projects with Oxford University. Students in these projects will split their time between Oxford and one of the participating Max Planck Institutes, earning a PhD degree from Oxford.

Becoming part of our interdisciplinary quantum materials community will help you establish an international network that lasts beyond your PhD. Connecting research groups across six locations, MPGC-QM fosters collaboration on diverse topics related to quantum materials.
More than 30 distinguished group leaders participate in the program, offering challenging and innovative PhD projects.
Applicants should hold an MSc (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, mathematics, or computer science, with some knowledge of solid-state science, excellent English skills, and a motivation to pursue an international, multidisciplinary PhD.
Exceptional candidates with a first-class four-year BSc degree (or equivalent) may apply for the fast-track option.
