The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a

Full Professor of Political Philosophy

at salary grade W3 to commence on 1 September 2026. This is a permanent civil service position.

We are seeking a committed, internationally recognized individual with outstanding research expertise in the field of contemporary political philosophy. Competence and experience in interdisciplinary research, either theoretical or applied, in the areas of philosophy of public policy or governance will be considered an asset. Active participation in interdisciplinary teaching, supervision, and further development of the BA programme in Philosophy & Economics is expected, as well as teaching and supervision responsibilities in the MA programmes Philosophy & Economics and Philosophy & Computer Science, among others. The Chair of Political Philosophy is also expected to play a key role in the Philosophy Department’s Third Mission and outreach strategy. The ability to teach in English is expected.
