Responsibilities

The Faculty of Humanities seeks a junior professor with a tenure track (W1TTW2) in Jewish Studies. The professor will be responsible for teaching and research in Jewish Studies, focusing on at least one of the following areas:

  • Rabbinic literature
  • Medieval biblical exegesis
  • Material cultures (manuscript studies and printed works)
  • Intellectual exchange processes and the history of entanglement in ancient, medieval, and/or early modern Judaism

In addition to research and teaching, the role requires:

  • Teaching across all Jewish Studies degree programs (bachelor’s and master’s)
  • Active involvement in training prospective school teachers of Religion
  • Alignment with the Manuscript Cultures core research area
Your profile

This position targets early career researchers with an outstanding academic record and research experience in Jewish Studies.

  • Relevant publications in the specified research areas, including unpublished dissertations
  • Proficiency in Hebrew and English at a high level

We also seek:

  • An excellent doctorate in Jewish Studies/Judaic Studies or a related field
  • Proficiency in German at C1 level (language skills can be developed within the first 2 years with university support)
  • Less than 4 years since completing the doctorate (with parental and care leave periods granted as two years per child); the junior professor will be evaluated before the end of their appointment for potential tenure

Ideally, candidates will also have:

  • Experience in securing external funding and managing funded projects
  • Proficiency in another relevant language
