Jobbeschreibung

Participation with Security: Empower women – shaping the future. -Protection against violence and participation in refugee accommodations

Funded by federal program „Demokratie leben!“ from the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, start September 2025 until december 2025. The pilot project is funded until December 31, 2025. A continuation of the project from January 1 to December 31, 2026, is planned.

TERRE DES FEMMES – Menschenrechte für die Frau e.V. is a non-profit women’s rights organisation that supports women and girls affected by violence through public relations work, lobbying, networking, international cooperation, and awareness- raising campaigns. Our core topics are domestic and sexualised violence, female genital mutilation, violence in the name of honour, trafficking in women and prostitution, sexual and reproductive rights, gender equality and integration as well as international development cooperation. The organisation employs around 40 staff members in full- and part-time. The federal office is located in Berlin.

The pilot project "Participating with Security: Empowering Women – Shaping the Future" was launched on May 1, 2025. The project targets refugee women and girls in shared accommodations in Berlin and Brandenburg and is implemented by TERRE DES FEMMES, together with the organization Soziale Arbeit Mittelmark e.V.

All women and girls have the right to protection, participation, and a life free from violence, regardless of their origin, place of residence, or refugee status. Refugee girls and women need a culturally and trauma-sensitive environment in shared accommodations, as well as safe spaces for exchange, networking, and self-empowerment. However, these are often lacking. This project addresses this and offers the opportunity for low-threshold contact and exchange formats. The focus is on a participatory approach, as the participants are involved as active designers.

The project addresses the topics of violence protection and participation, as refugee girls and women in particular are often threatened or affected by gender-based violence (GBV), such as female genital mutilation (FGM). Therefore, this project implements educational and awareness-raising measures on violence protection. Furthermore, the project facilitates active participation to enable sustainable participation and empowerment.

The pilot project encompasses the following aspects:

  • Knowledge as a mechanism for protection and prevention of violence : Women and girls are empowered through training on protection against violence and gender-based violence;
  • Democracy and participation : Women and girls experience themselves as active participants, contribute their skills, and participate in decision-making processes;
  • Resilience promotion and empowerment : They examine their rights and reflect on how they can exercise and assert them in everyday life;
  • Training for specialists in the shared accommodations . They are trained in protective mechanisms, culturally sensitive and trauma-sensitive communication techniques, and their role as contact persons and multipliers to ensure the long-term transfer of knowledge and experience.

Your role of responisbilities :

  • Participation in the kick-off event in the form of a women's breakfast at a Berlin refugee shelter to get to know the project participants and the refugee shelter team (half-day event – 4 billable working hours)
  • Implementation, preparation, and follow-up of a one-day event in cooperation with the TERRE DES FEMMES project team. This one-day event will take place in Berlin in the form of a leisure activity and an educational and awareness-raising workshop (one-day event - 8 billable working hours)

Your profil:

  • You have extensive experience in counseling on gender-based violence and female genital mutilation.
  • You have experience in (intercultural) work with girls and women who have fled their homes.
  • You are fluent in other languages (e.g., Arabic, Turkish, Kurdish, Russian, or Farsi). You communicate fluently in German or English.
  • You identify with the above-mentioned project and its objectives.
  • You work responsibly, structured, reliably, with discretion and loyalty.
  • You work independently and with a goal-oriented approach. You possess a team spirit and can respond flexibly and sensitively to stressful situations.

Time-Shedule:

• Selection interviews (digital or in-person): Week 36

• Leisure activity and workshop: Q4 2025
