Sphaira Medical is a med-tech startup from Berlin with the vision to revolutionize medical isolation. Our goal is to bring people together no matter how dangerous the circumstances. We facilitate the closest thing to face-to-face, in person, natural interaction – without risking exposure to pathogens. How do we do this? We create MOBY, the world’s first Mobile Protective Pod.


We are now looking for a Freelance/part-time Design Engineer in our Berlin headquarters.


You will work directly with the executive management and the Engineers with the simple goal of getting MOBY ready for production. In exchange, you’ll get unique insights into a unique company, first-hand experience in entrepreneurship, a lot of responsibility, and the chance to have a real and lasting impact on healthcare globally.


Tasks

Develop and build an innovative product in the field of medtech and vehicle engineering in a dynamic team which includes:


Design & Development:


Create detailed mechanical designs and 3D CAD models for advanced medical products, including frames, mechanisms, and accessories, with a focus on aesthetics, durability, and user experience;


Prototyping & Testing:


Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and compliance standards. Incorporate iterative feedback into design improvements;


Material Selection:


Research and select materials for components, balancing factors such as cost, strength, weight, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility.


Design Modifications:


Implement or suggest design modifications and adaptations to meet evolving requirements or resolve technical challenges.


Documentation:


Prepare precise engineering drawings (ISO or ASME) and specifications, as well as technical documentation, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulatory and quality standards.


Cross-functional Collaboration:


Collaborate with stakeholders, including design, engineering, and product teams, to integrate innovative features and continuous improvements into the product.


Requirements

  • Team player with good communication skills;

  • Result-driven person;

  • Advanced skills in CAD (Autodesk Fusion) and GD&T.


  • Surfacing skills are an advantage;



  • Experience with automotive exteriors and interiors is an advantage;


  • Ability to feel the design language of the product;

  • Experience with electronic’s housings and panels is an advantage;

  • Understanding and practical experience with PDM/PLM and change control;

  • Professional Level English skills

  • Good skills in the German language to communicate with our local suppliers;
