For our International Cooperation Division
in Hamburg we are now looking for a
Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Technical Specialist (d/f/m)
- unlimited / full-time (39 hours/week) / as soon as possible –

The purpose of this position, is to support improvement in the quality of food security and nutrition projects supported by Plan Germany, enabling the use of best practices in design and implementation, in alignment with Plan Germany’s and Plan Global’s strategic objectives. The technical specialist works to ensure programming is safe, inclusive, gender-transformative, and has a lasting impact.


Your tasks:
  • Provide technical advice to and mentor project teams throughout the project management cycle of food security and nutrition projects in the context of development cooperation and humanitarian action
  • Develop written guidance and/ or provide orientation on sector standards in food security and nutrition
  • Advise on the development of robust and consistent monitoring frameworks for projects with food security and nutrition components, in close collaboration with our M&E team.
  • Conduct project monitoring visits to support in key stages of the project cycle
  • Support the development of a global Plan framework on food security and nutrition (in close coordination with internal technical working groups)
  • Set up and run a food security and nutrition community of practice within Plan Germany to build and strengthen Plan Germany’s internal technical expertise on food security and nutrition programming, to continuously strengthen quality programming and knowledge management
  • Support the development and implementation of research initiatives related to food security and nutrition in line with the Plan Germany research agenda.
  • Active participation in relevant internal and external networks and working groups.
  • Contribute to the work of the advocacy department in Plan Germany in developing position papers and conducting influencing events related to food security and nutrition.
Your profile:
  • Post-graduate university degree in relevant field of study (Nutritional Sciences, Public Health Nutrition, Economics or related fields etc.)
  • Proven knowledge of food security and nutrition programmatic approaches in humanitarian and/or development settings as well as several years’ experience designing, implementing and managing food security and nutrition programmes, in humanitarian and/or development settings and according to sectoral standards
  • Experience in capacity strengthening in food and nutrition security with a variety of audiences
  • Basic understanding of other programmatic and cross-cutting areas such as: Child Protection, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship, Youth engagement, Gender and Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of Results Based Management (RBM), design and monitoring and evaluation with relevance to food security and nutrition
  • Knowledge of main institutional donors relevant to FSN programming and a proven track record in developing funding proposals and reports is an advantage
  • Fluency in English is essential. Additional skills in German, French, Arabic, and/or Spanish are an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in relevant types of formative and summative assessments, data collection and analysis and incorporation of gender analyses into assessment approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functions and sectors to build strong working relationships and to ensure high-quality market-based programme delivery
  • Solid organizational skills: proficiency in working productively in a fast-paced environment and under remote team and management structures
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software, knowledge management tools, remote training, and engagement tools, and familiarity with mobile monitoring tools
