Here at Volocopter, we are the pioneers of electric air taxis (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft - eVTOLs). In 2011 we carried out the first-ever crewed flight of a fully electric multicopter and have since conducted more than 2,000 public and private test flights across the world (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Your mission during this flight:

You will be a member of our Flight Test Team, providing technical and operational expertise in Structures & Dynamics, for ground and flight tests of crewed and uncrewed configurations. Tests will usually be conducted locally (Bruchsal/Lahr) but may involve campaigns at remote locations from time to time.

You will work closely with our engineering and structural rig testing teams to assist our flight testing process and to ensure the required readiness for test in time, on cost and quality. In addition, you will manage activities related to the aircraft DMU. As a Senior FTSE, you will be a mentor to more junior engineers and have opportunities for technical guidance. Volocopter has an established Flight Test Organization as part of our EASA Part21J Design Organization Approval (DOA).

  • You will be involved with planning, monitoring, and optimizing Ground and Flight Test activities for electric aircraft development and certification purposes on your specialities (Structures) for the overall functions of a complete aircraft.
  • You will assist with aircraft preparation, inspection, and repair pre/post-test (in particular on composite structures).
  • You will take care of aircraft snags and findings as well as the implementation of aircraft configuration changes required for specific flight test campaign, including liaising with design engineering, production and maintenance when required.
  • You will support flight test operation as telemetry crew for structures-related topic.
  • You will be involved in the assessment and documentation of tests including troubleshooting and development of standardized analysis and reporting tools.
  • You will work on engineering projects, the solution of which requires technological advances and related development.

Qualifications

Check in your professional skills:

  • 10+ years of experience as an Engineer involved in aeronautical development and certification process.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience in metallic and composite structures from design and maintenance/repair perspective.
  • Experience in planning, monitoring and analysing envelope expansions, dynamics, loads, vibro-acoustics and flutter tests.
  • Experience in designing (using CAD programs such as Siemens NX or equivalent), analysis for structural strength assessment.
  • Experience in using telemetry software (such as Curtiss-Wright IADS or equivalent) for GUI development and monitoring real-time critical parameters during flight test operations.
  • Communicative team player, well organized with a proven ability to get things done.
  • Knowledge of the English language at a professional level.

Preferred skills:

  • Education or experience in rotorcraft flight testing.
  • Aircraft MRO experience.
  • Experience as an MRB/Liaison Engineer.
