Join a pioneering cannabis technology startup in Germany as a Financial Operations Manager. This pivotal role involves overseeing finance operations while collaborating with executive teams to drive strategic decisions. Ideal candidates will have experience in financial regulations and software, offering a clear path to a CFO position as the company scales.
Location : Remote - Must be based in Germany!
Company Description
Our client is one of Germany’s most exciting cannabis technology startups, founded by an impressive cannabis industry pioneer who built one of the first, largest, and most successful cannabis technology companies in the world. A true household name in the global cannabis space. The founder led that business successfully for over 15 years before exiting in 2023. He’s now replicating that success in Europe, starting with Germany. The company was founded in 2022 and currently has 25 employees.
As one of the pioneers in combining cannabis and technology, the founder previously built an online marketplace that connected cannabis consumers with licensed dispensaries and physicians in the U.S. After relocating to Europe, he spent the past three years building a similar platform tailored to the German market—and has fully self-funded the venture. That same model—updated, localised, and digitised—is now being brought to Europe. The tech platform went live in November 2024 and is already gaining strong traction.
Our client is not a clinic, a pharmacy, or a typical telemedicine service—it’s a technology platform, built entirely inhouse by a 12-person engineering team. The system connects the full medical cannabis journey : patients, clinics, doctors, pharmacies, producers, and distributors. Patients can book appointments, access prescriptions, and have their medicine fulfilled—all in one place.
The mission is to make Germany’s medical cannabis market radically more transparent and accessible for patients. On the platform, patients and consumers can track live product availability, compare verified reviews, and view real-time listings from pharmacies, producers, and distributors—with full origin and compliance details. It also integrates telehealth functionality, allowing users to connect with licensed physicians and secure prescriptions directly through the platform.
Unlike most platforms, our client doesn’t charge patients. Instead, it generates revenue through commercial partners— Clinics, licensed pharmacies, manufacturers, and wholesalers—who use the platform to access patients and scale their operations. This keeps the platform free for users while supporting a scalable, ethical business model.
With the core product live, a strong tech team in place, and sales and partnerships growing quickly, our client is now looking for a financial operations manager to help manage & lead the financial operations within the company, with the scope of growing into a CFO as the company grows.
Role Description
Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Operations Manager will design, implement and oversee the company’s end-to-end finance and back-office operations. The company works very closely with a family office that provides extensive financial support, including accounting services and dealings with German authorities, and with a retained lawyer for all legal and compliance matters, so you’ll be collaborating closely with both teams. In this hands-on role (approximately 65 % finance operations, 35 % generic operations), you will manage daily invoice processing, bill payments, bank reconciliations and cash-flow monitoring while liaising with an external bookkeeping service and audit partners to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with German standards. You will also lead budgeting and forecasting cycles, produce concise financial reports for executive review, and partner with Sales to reconcile revenue entries, commission calculations and subscription rollouts—providing the trusted financial insights that underpin strategic decision-making.
