Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead the accounting and project finance function within our German defense operations. This role focuses on ensuring accurate financial execution across all active programs, including oversight of invoicing, cash flow, project financials, and compliance with public-sector procurement requirements. The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in German GAAP (HGB) and demonstrable experience working with defense public tenders in Germany.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end/year-end closings, reconciliations, and statutory reporting under HGB.
• Oversee project finance execution, ensuring accurate invoicing, cash flow tracking, and financial documentation aligned to project milestones and contract obligations.
• Coordinate with project accountants to ensure end-to-end financial lifecycle visibility for each defense contract.
• Ensure full compliance with defense procurement financial requirements, particularly related to BAAINBw and other federal tender authorities.
• Prepare and submit all required financial statements, audit documentation, and regulatory filings.
• Act as the finance point of contact for internal stakeholders and external auditors during project audits or due diligence reviews.
• Ensure accurate recognition of revenue, costs, and receivables associated with long-term and milestone-based defense contracts.
• Drive improvements in project accounting systems, workflows, and reporting tools to support operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline; advanced certifications (e.g. StB, CPA, or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in financial roles, with proven leadership of accounting and project finance teams.
• Deep expertise in German GAAP (HGB) and statutory reporting.
• Hands-on experience managing financial operations for public-sector or defense tenders, ideally involving BAAINBw or other German federal procurement entities.
• Strong understanding of invoice control, cash management, and project-based financial tracking.
• ERP proficiency (e.g., SAP or similar), with an emphasis on project modules and accounting integration.
• Fluency in German and English.
