The primary focus of the Financial Controller is to increase shareholder value through developing and implementing financial and operational strategies for our site, based in Berlin. You will have overall responsibility for the financial statements, financial planning, and performance management analysis. This position is also responsible for all accounting operations and financial reporting, overseeing internal controls and compliance, and providing appropriate risk management. The Financial Controller will work closely with the PCI Bridgend facility, which currently manages AR & AP on Berlin’s behalf. As a member of the Site Leadership Team (“SLT”), you are a strategic business partner to the site lead and other key stakeholders. You will report to the Senior Director Finance Global Clinical Operations (“SDR Fin, Clinical”). This position will be primarily on-site with up to 1 day working from home per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for setting the financial direction of PCI Berlin, including business planning, financial forecasting cycles, and implementation of strategies.
  2. Operate as a strategic and trusted business partner to the site lead and provide advice on pricing and costing decisions through monitoring profitability and performing financial analysis.
  3. Manage all aspects of cash flow, focusing on continuous improvements in Net Working Capital management (accounts receivable, inventory management, and accounts payable).
  4. Drive process improvements leveraging digital technology and support the development and enhancement of the ERP platform (JDE) to ensure system integrity, financial effectiveness, and controls.
  5. Foster good working relationships with PCI Bridgend to ensure all finance functions are completed accurately and on time.
  6. Complete month-end procedures, reconciliations, and investigate variances.
  7. Provide technical accounting support related to the latest accounting standards.
  8. Support the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements within prescribed timelines.
  9. Maintain the fixed asset register monthly and develop cash flow forecasts for capital spend.
  10. Process and submit VAT returns to the German tax office.
  11. Prepare local, state, and federal forms.
  12. Manage payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely payments to employees and external agencies (pensions, taxes, insurance, etc.).
  13. Maintain compliance with PCI Financial Policies.
  14. Lead the annual financial audit and ensure IFRS compliance throughout the year.
  15. Ensure adherence to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures, and rules.
  16. Undertake any other duties reasonably required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in Finance Business Partnering, with exposure to Manufacturing and/or Supply Chain.
  • Strong analytical skills combined with excellent communication skills.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and adaptable to changing conditions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Proficiency in Excel, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Strong organizational and analytical capabilities with attention to detail and strategic thinking.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask, work independently, and with minimal supervision.
  • High energy, ownership of work, and dedication to driving results.
  • Flexibility for on-site management and engagement across both locations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 4+ years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Fluent in both German and English (reading, writing, speaking).
