As the European Regional Office expands its portfolio, the Finance Assistant will play a crucial role in providing high-quality financial and administrative support to ensure effective project and program delivery. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial systems and ensuring compliance with IUCN policies, international accounting standards, and donor requirements
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Financial Administration
- Review and process payment requests, ensuring all payments are authorized, recorded, and supported by relevant documentation.
- Support the preparation and verification of expense claims, ensuring compliance with financial policies.
- Assist in the preparation and processing of Travel Authorizations (TAs), ensuring compliance with internal policies and proper documentation.
- Monitor and manage petty cash transactions.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and best practices from stakeholders.
- Financial Reporting Support
- Assist in providing data for the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Assist in providing data for the preparation of periodic donor reports financial statements.
- Ensure financial reports comply with IUCN policies and procedures, international accounting standards, and donor eligibility requirements.
- Prepare simple financial reconciliations and track expenses.
- Record Maintenance
- Maintain and organize financial records and documentation for easy reference and audit purposes.
- Ensure all financial documentation is filed and archived appropriately.
- Audit Preparation
- Assist in preparing for information for internal and external audits, including gathering and organizing required documentation.
- Assist in addressing audit queries and implement audit recommendations.
- Budget Management Support
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor project budget expenditures and report any variances to the Senior Finance Officer.
- Support for Senior Staff
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the Senior Finance Officer and other finance team members.
- Assist in training and capacity-building activities for staff on financial matters.

SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from EUR 40.000 to EUR 50.000 (depending on skills, experiences and IUCN equity analysis) subject to deductions for social security contributions and health insurance, and before tax.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field. Progress towards professional accounting qualifications is desirable.
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience with a recognized organization, preferably in an international development agency or NGO
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of German or other IUCN languages (French or Spanish) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of professionalism and ethical standards.
