Jobbeschreibung

WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Film Camp Counselors (m/f/d) Rheinland-Pfalz

Do you have experience with child care, au/bro pairing, tutoring, or teaching - plus a passion for making films? What are you waiting for? Be a part of our crew!

We are expanding our dynamic, international team and need Film Camp Counselors (m/f/d) to work at our English language camps across Germany (North- and Baltic Sea coasts, Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hessen, Bavaria, etc).

Contract type: Freelance
Starting date: As soon as possible
Job focus: Counselor (film)

Oskar lernt Englisch has been offering English language camps in Germany since 2002 for children between the ages of 6 and 15 looking to gain confidence in their English. We fuse structured English lessons with active and informal settings. We know that learning isn’t just something you do in a classroom!

No matter how big or small, how short or tall, we are all born with an insatiable curiosity, driving us to explore and discover the world around us. At Oskar lernt Englisch we want to make room for the adventurous spirit that is all too often constrained by stuffy classrooms and overly standardized learning. Instead, we take our campers to climb through treetops, windsurf the waves of the North sea, and play capture the flag to the sound of cowbells ringing through the black forest. We’ll also jump into a variety of creative processes, get groovy with some cool dance moves, or push the limits of storytelling through the medium of film- all in English of course! We hope to inspire and create an accessible environment to learn English in, combining the expert knowledge of English speakers who are energetic, empathetic, and culturally diverse with an adventure-packed environment. We don’t just want to teach English, but also make memories with new friends! :)

We offer:

Camp life can be pretty demanding, which is why we try to accommodate and provide for your needs while you’re out there swinging in the tree-tops or learning to shoot arrows like Robin Hood. In addition to connecting with other incredible counselors from all walks of life, and seeing all of the beautiful locations and unique pockets of history and culture that Germany has to offer, we’ll also throw in a few perks:

  • Travel, room, and board are paid for on all overnight camps.
  • We’ll pay for your first aid certification.
  • Access to both our digital and physical library of teaching resources.
  • Want to work on your teaching skills? We offer free teacher development seminars.
  • Curious about who else works at OLE? Join us at one of our staff pizza and beer get-togethers!
  • You’ll also get regular pay increases the more camps you do!
Your tasks:
  • Seasonal freelance work (during school holidays)
  • Teaching English in the mornings
  • Supervision of children during mealtimes
  • Responsible for running a film program in the afternoons: storyboarding, script writing, costumes and acting, sound, and planning a filming schedule for the week - this is your chance to be a producer!
  • Running workshops/sports/activities
  • Bringing your electric energy and enthusiasm to camp!
These are our requirements:
  • Fluent in English (C1/C2)
  • Teaching experience, and/or experience working with children
  • A high level of responsibility and empathy towards others, including children
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, aspects of film making.
  • Proficiency with film editing software (any), as well as having a laptop with access to such.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 4 weeks per year, during the Summer and Autumn school holidays.
  • Availability to complete online and in-person training
  • Availability to attend a first aid course
  • Police check for working with children
  • A valid work permit for freelance work in Germany (if applicable)
  • 18 years of age or older

We will be unable to interview those who do not already have a valid working permit. If you are waiting to have your appointment for your permit, please let us know when it is scheduled for. Holders of student visas containing the words "selbstständige tätigkeit nicht erlaubt" are generally not permitted to do freelance work.

We know interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences. Our goal is to find individuals who are just as excited as we are to get out on camp and have an enriching, adventure-filled, (English) learning experience with our campers. However, in our search for the perfect counselor, we do understand that the interview isn’t just about us getting to know you, but as much a chance for you to make sure we’re the right fit for you too! Curious about how our recruitment process works? We’re all about transparency!

  • Send us your resume, and a short cover letter about yourself to help us get to know you! If your camp-relevant experience is not obvious on your CV, please tell us about it! We guarantee that every single application is read by a real-life, flesh-and-blood human being. Promise!
  • We’ll let you know via E-Mail if we want to take things to the next level and meet you virtually. If so, you’ll receive a detailed E-Mail with information and instructions so that you feel totally prepared.
  • Once the hard part is over, we will let you know the outcome of the interview. Regardless of the result you will hear from us (ghosting is lame).
  • Once the formalities are out of the way, we’ll help you with the paperwork (onboarding), and get you out on camp ASAP!

We are always looking for energetic, talented, motivated, and creative individuals. Feel like this is the adventure you were looking for? Have any questions? We look forward to hearing from you.

Do you still have questions?
