Job purpose
Responsible for the installation, servicing and maintenance of machinery at customer facilities. A key member of the Technical Service team, this role works closely with production and sales colleagues to meet customer needs.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of electrical, mechanical and controls issues on machines installed at customer sites, including overhauls and field upgrades
- Support the development, processing and follow up of specifications during machinery testing, debugging and start up, and during the development and field testing of new product designs
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, acting professionally and proactively to resolve equipment, product and service issues
- Act as the technical expert, partnering with sales and manufacturing teams to resolve customer issues and support new business and product development projects
- Apply continuous improvement techniques to increase equipment productivity, and contribute to process improvement and cost reduction initiatives
- Make effective use of in house and standard IT systems
- Maintain the skills base required to keep pace with machinery and product technology
- Provide instruction and training to customer staff on safety, operation, machinery maintenance and correct product handling
- Prepare service reports, modified schematics, standard operating procedures and specification updates to support field activity
- Report on the progress of projects and assignments to internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct audits, evaluations and assessments of machine systems and performance
- Liaise with other companies and OEMs working on shared projects
Required qualifications
- Four or more years of relevant experience and/or formal training in equipment maintenance, repair and troubleshooting. Knowledge of packaging or similar equipment is an advantage
- Technical qualification in industrial or mechanical engineering
- Proven ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings, with PLC and operator interface knowledge
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement methods such as Six Sigma
- Willingness to travel at short notice. Working hours are flexible to meet customer demands, and some shift or out of hours working will be required
- Strong English reading, writing and speaking skills. German language ability is an advantage
