Job Title: Field Service Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting conveyor equipment and systems at customer sites. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, and ensure all work meets safety, quality, and project specifications. The position requires frequent travel to client facilities, extensive hands‑on work with conveyors and related equipment, and close collaboration with internal teams to deliver reliable, high‑performing systems.
Travel Information
- Flights, hotels, and rental cars will be provided
- Employees will receive $60/day (7 days) per diem
- Employees will be traveling 90% of the time and going from client site to client site, 30-60 days at a time
- Employees will receive $25/hr during travel hours
Hours/Schedule Information
- Employees will work 6-7 days a week, but 7 days will be expected more often than not
- Employees will work up to 12 hours a day for a minimum of 18 days per automation line
- Primarily Day Shift hours
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on conveyor equipment and systems as part of the service team.
- Install and commission conveyor equipment and systems, including mechanical and electrical components.
- Ensure all installations comply with project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of conveyor systems.
- Diagnose electrical issues, including work on 480V systems, and perform necessary repairs safely.
- Perform machine and conveyor installations, decommissioning, and upgrades as required.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications to complete installations and repairs.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, service reports, and maintenance records.
- Communicate project status, risks, and issues clearly to the project manager and internal teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and customer service teams to ensure successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Use multi hand and power tools associated with conveyor installation and maintenance.
- Operate ladders, forklifts, and scissor lifts safely and in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Follow all site‑specific Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) requirements at customer facilities, with a strong focus on safe work practices.
- Draft routine reports and correspondence related to service activities and project progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support team and project needs.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience traveling for work in the past
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical degree in a related field preferred.
- At least 3+ years of experience in mechanical and electrical installation, preferably in the conveyor industry.
- Hands‑on experience working with conveyor systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Strong electrical knowledge, including experience with 480V systems.
- Mechanical and millwright experience with heavy mechanical equipment.
- Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting for conveyor and automation systems.
- Experience as a maintenance technician performing machine and conveyor installation and preventive maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, proposals, and engineering documents.
- Knowledge of conveyor system design, installation, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to use and safely operate basic hand and power tools associated with conveyor installation.
- Experience with hydraulics and heavy mechanical systems.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field service environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence in clear written English.
- Fluency in reading and writing English.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to use mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops for technical and reporting tasks.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift and carry items of at least 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and operate a forklift and scissor lift safely in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts and materials with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical degree or formal training in electrical, mechanical, or industrial technology.
- Experience specifically in the conveyor or material handling industry.
- Understanding of Spanish in addition to English.
- Prior experience working in large distribution or e‑commerce facilities.
- Familiarity with safety training and best practices in industrial environments.
- Comfort working with heavy mechanical equipment and complex conveyance systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to EH&S and OSHA standards.
- Strong customer service mindset and responsiveness to customer needs.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work schedules.

Work Environment
- The role is based primarily in large distribution and e‑commerce facilities, including sites with extensive conveyor and material handling systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
