You perform a variety of duties relating to the operations, engineering, maintenance, technical assistance that is related to Tie Cable maintenance and coordination of related subcontractors. Duties include the progressive responsibilities of outside cable plant installation, maintenance, repair and testing including both multi-pair copper cable and single-mode fiber optic cable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Tie Cable support for emergency restoration, relocation and extension / expansion of Long Distance Copper and Fiber Optic cables.
  • 24x7 service restoral, testing and maintenance using complex fault isolation, incorporating OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry), Metallic Copper TDR, Power Loss test equipment and AutoCAD drawing documentation.
  • Ensures that repairs, relocations, extension / expansions and new cable projects are performed to TIA / EIA -598 (Bellcore), and 2d Theater Signal Brigade standards. Supervises repairs, extension / expansions or new installations utilizing G.655E / G656 Single Mode Fiber Optic cable.
  • Validates testing is conducted to DIN (Deutsche Industrie Norm)
  • Coordinates and plans repairs, relocations and extension / expansions, mobilizes / supervises repair crews for civil work.
  • Interacts with host nation real estate contacts to obtain necessary permits.
  • Assures that Tie Cable as-built and test documentation is maintained and updated.
  • Responds and processes Tie Cable related inquiries by host nation, civil companies and US Government.
  • Prepares cost estimates, Tasker information, and work completion documentation.
  • Provides expert technical direction in determining maintenance requirements and repair costs. Researches and provides cost effective turn-key Tie Cable solutions for US government.

Qualifications

  • The individual shall have training in Inside & Outside cable plant maintenance and repair plus fiber optic cable splicing techniques and fiber optic cable fault isolation and acceptance testing.
  • Must be able to interpret Copper and Fiber Optic Cable test results.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking the English and German language , to include the ability to comprehend and interpret complex electronic and technical data, schematics, and logic diagrams.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a Driver’s license valid in Europe for light non-tactical vehicles (sedans and mini-vans).
  • Individual shall have experience in Tie Cable documentation, emergency repair response, and knowledge of cable standards such as CDS, ICDS & Cabling System Standard.
  • Experience with Copper and Fiber Optic Cable solutions and US Government performance standards are critical.
  • Proficiency with interpretation and / or development of blue prints for Tie Cable mapping using AutoCAD and Tie Cable software applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills are mandatory.
  • Individual shall possess skills to operate desktop computer software to include AutoCAD, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets and other software programs used by the US Forces.
  • On-call duty required.

This is a US Local National position in Germany. As such the employee will be subject to paying German taxes and be part of the German work force with all the benefits of HN employment and social system.
