We are the research groups “Tectonics and Sedimentary Systems” of the Institute of Geological Sciences at the Freie Universität Berlin under the direction of Prof. Dr. Alexander Webb and Prof. Dr. Anne Bernhardt. For our dynamic, friendly and international team we are looking for a technical employee in IT to support the work of our groups on a full-time and permanent basis.
Job description:
• IT system development and software development for four scientific laboratories Measuring devices and data analysis
• InSAR (Interferometry of Synthetic Aperture Radar) computing system
• IR mass spectrometer
• LA-3Q-ICP mass spectrometer
• a LIDAR scanner and camera system of a hydrological experimental flume
• Maintenance and operation of the measuring computers for these large devices
• Support for the scientific IT of the Tectonics and Sedimentary Systems departments
• Supporting team members with technical problems
• Creation and maintenance of internal databases, including data backups, BSc/MSc/PhD and research project data as well as teaching materials
• Maintenance of the web presence of the Tectonics and Sedimentary Systems working groups
• Technical support for the online products of the Tectonics and Sedimentary Systems departments
• Set up and manage the remote sensing infrastructure (InSAR - Interferometry of Synthetic Aperture Radar) and collaborate with researchers to maximize its scientific impact.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent knowledge
Desirable:
• Knowledge and practical experience in areas such as algorithms, data structures, software engineering, artificial intelligence, automation of processing chains and the creation and management of databases
• Ability to analyze complex problems, develop innovative solutions and understand the requirements of research projects and implement them in software technology
• Broad understanding of theoretical computer science
• Ability to adapt or develop new technologies.
• Very good knowledge of software development
• Programming skills, especially in the field of scientific computing and data analysis and web presences
• Knowledge of data processing, network architectures and operating system environments.
• Good knowledge of software engineering
• Knowledge and experience in the creation and maintenance of technical documentation and user manuals
• Knowledge and experience in the supervision and control of contract work in the IT sector
• Knowledge of electrical engineering
• Solution-oriented, conceptual and analytical approach
• Good time management and planning skills
• Strong commitment to your own professional development
• Fluency in German and English
