The Position

What makes our division special

Diagnostics Operations Penzberg is part of the global Diagnostics Operations and the main producer of high-quality raw materials and specialized kits for Roche's Diagnostics division. You can expect exciting and responsible tasks in the manufacture of biochemical and chemical reagents for in-vitro diagnostics and other Roche business units.

The Team

In the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) unit, we handle design transfer and product care projects for the Diagnostics Manufacturing unit in Penzberg. As an expert in sequencing technologies, you will be part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team developing and implementing innovative solutions in DNA and RNA analytics. Your focus will be on implementing and optimizing sequencing methods, especially Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and ensuring quality in production and analysis.

Your Responsibilities

• Act as a specialist and primary contact for analysis and resolution of challenges in applying NGS methods, advising teams on complex sequencing strategy questions.
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485) within NGS procedures.
• Take responsibility for projects focused on modern sequencing technologies, especially NGS techniques, their implementation, and continuous improvement.
• Evaluate, develop, and validate NGS-based methods for DNA and RNA analysis, ensuring their successful integration into production and quality control processes.
• Optimize existing sequencing procedures and establish new techniques to continually improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Drive continuous improvements and innovations in sequencing technologies and contribute to the strategic direction of the department.

Your Qualifications

• Degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related scientific field, ideally with a PhD in sequencing technologies.
• At least 5 years of professional experience applying and developing sequencing technologies, particularly in NGS.
• Extensive experience with common NGS platforms (e.g., Illumina, Ion Torrent, PacBio, Oxford Nanopore) and familiarity with NGS data analysis and interpretation.
• Deep understanding of various NGS methodologies and their applications in research and diagnostics, with the ability to implement new technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Experience in developing, validating, and standardizing sequencing processes in a regulated environment (FDA, ISO, GLP).
• Strong bioinformatics skills and experience using analysis software (e.g., BaseSpace, CLC Genomics, QIAGEN).
• Project management experience and the ability to successfully lead projects introducing new sequencing techniques.
• Excellent English skills and solid IT knowledge, especially in bioinformatics.
