Jobbeschreibung

We see the semiconductor industry as a realm of possibility. We see opportunity. We see the profound impact that our graphene solutions will have in transforming the industry. We invite you to join us in driving change with our fundamentally human-centred approach, uniting bright minds around a shared vision. The vision is: Prove to everybody that you can make a fundamental change. Prove with your knowledge and skills how things can be done differently. Together, we can change the paradigm of how the world connects

About our technology

The semiconductor industry’s growing demand for more powerful chips with higher bandwidth and lower power finds its solution in our technology. We connect chips to high-throughput, low-delay computing networks. The key lies in harnessing the physical properties of graphene to combine electronic computing with photonic communication, allowing countless chips to interact almost as if they were one. Our graphene photonic innovation increases computing power and efficiency to a new order of magnitude

In short, we connect chips to create powerful and energy-efficient networks, overcoming connectivity limitations in the semiconductor industry. We deliver the graphene solution

The Role

Black Semiconductor is looking for an (Experienced) Process Integration Engineer (f/m/d) to join our Fab team in Aachen, Germany. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding the challenges of semiconductor manufacturing, developing systematic methodologies to address them, and delivering stable, scalable process integration solutions for integrated graphene photonics and high-speed optical chip interconnects

You will play a key role in driving our technology towards a robust and stable integration flow by leveraging existing semiconductor manufacturing methods to achieve high performance, reliability, and yield. You will translate process observations into actionable improvements and support the maturation of our technology from development to volume manufacturing

This is a hybrid onsite role closely collaborating with our Fab team at our 300 mm manufacturing facility in Aachen

Your Responsibilities
  • Develop and qualify process flows and integration schemes for integrated photonic devices to meet product requirements
  • Conceive, plan, execute, and interpret process integration studies to support technology maturation and enable a viable transition to mass production. This includes leading small-to-medium integration and optimization projects while contributing to more complex development programs
  • Develop data collection strategies that provide quantitative insights for evidence-based decision-making. Analyze complex datasets and distill key observations
  • Connect observations from past and current studies into recommendations that improve process quality, manufacturability, and yield
  • Communicate findings and recommendations across the organization and collaborate closely with Optical Design, System Design, Characterization, Graphene, and other cross-functional teams
  • Actively engage with Process Engineering and related teams to define and continuously refine process specifications for our 300 mm manufacturing facility
  • Abide by change-management protocols to introduce evidence-based improvements to our manufacturing sequences
  • Thrive in a highly dynamic startup environment by managing ambiguity, navigating interconnected dependencies, and proactively addressing gaps where needed
Your Qualifications
  • MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, or related fields
  • 7+ years of experience in Process Integration within a semiconductor fab (ideally 300 mm). Multiple diverse experiences collected as a process engineer, or roles similar to yield, integration, or new product introduction will also be considered
  • Proven track record of leading complex projects in technology development, process optimization, yield improvement, defect reduction, or reliability enhancement with strong autonomy
  • Strong expertise in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DoE), and data analysis, with hands‑on experience using statistical tools such as JMP
  • Excellent English communication skills with the ability to analyze complex data and clearly present technical recommendations across teams
Tools, Technologies & Systems
  • Project management skills and cross functional coordination with stakeholders at all levels
  • Prior experience and technical knowledge of photonics process technologies and Back‑End‑of‑Line (BEOL) processing is considered a strong plus
