Job Description:

Your role

  • Manage the environmental sample hub facility.
  • Oversee incoming environmental samples.
  • Register samples from previous and ongoing sampling campaigns to the sample collection using in-house lab management software.
  • Coordinate samples distribution and shipment to collaborators.
  • Engage in the preparation and sampling of future field expeditions and post samples processing.
  • Be responsible for expedition related documentation management.
  • Organise and support hands-on training for collaborators, volunteers, and students in workshops and on the field.
  • Develop reusable training material, e.g., videos, which would be desirable.

This position is ideally suited for an applicant who:

  • Enjoys a high-energy and fast-paced environment in international and collaborative projects;
  • Is seeking a part-time or full-time position in a dynamic team within EMBL’s collaborative, interdisciplinary, and culturally diverse research environment.

Grading: Grade 4, 5, or 6 depending on experience and qualifications (monthly salary starting at €3,607, €3,925, or €4,459 after tax but excluding pension & insurances) + benefits

You have

  • A Master’s degree or a PhD in Biology, Biogeography, or related environmental sciences.
  • Experience in coordination of environmental sample storage and registration.
  • Expertise in fieldwork planning.
  • Fieldwork experience (ideally on soil, sediment, and/or water collection).
  • Experience in preparing teaching materials (e.g., handbooks, videos, etc.).
  • Flexibility to travel.
  • Experience in training personnel and knowledge transfer.
  • A strong team spirit, good communication, and organizational skills.
  • High adaptability and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid driving skills.
  • Fluency in English is compulsory.
  • Good knowledge of the German language is a plus.
