Jobbeschreibung

About the role

At Immowelt, part of the Aviv Group, you’ll work on one of Europe’s leading real estate platforms, serving over 50 million monthly users across both B2C and B2B journeys.

Our mission at Aviv is to unlock everyone’s perfect place, and at Immowelt, technology is central to delivering that at scale. This role offers the opportunity to lead a team in a product-driven, international environment, shaping architecture, engineering culture, and delivery practices while solving complex challenges in data, performance, and distributed systems.

We’re looking for a hands‑on Engineering Manager / Lead Engineer with a strong technical foundation and leadership mindset to guide a cross-functional team. You’ll own team performance, predictable delivery, and engineering quality, while still contributing to architecture and code where it matters most.

You’ll report to the Engineering Director and work closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to drive meaningful business impact.

In this role, you will:
Team Leadership & People Development
  • Lead and grow a high‑performing engineering team (4–9 engineers), providing clear direction, focus, and context

  • Hire, mentor, and develop engineers through continuous feedback and performance conversations

  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence

  • Ensure accountability for outcomes, quality, and predictable delivery

Delivery & Execution
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery, including planning, prioritisation, and dependency management

  • Proactively manage risks, remove blockers, and ensure timely execution

  • Partner with Product to define roadmaps and OKRs

  • Communicate progress, trade‑offs, and outcomes to stakeholders

Technical Leadership (hands‑on ~40%)
  • Contribute to architecture, prototypes, and critical code paths

  • Validate technical solutions across service design, integrations, and data models

  • Ensure alignment between technical initiatives and product priorities

Engineering Excellence
  • Continuously improve engineering practices (code reviews, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident management)

  • Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems following clean architecture principles

  • Drive performance optimisation and cost efficiency

  • Champion modern development practices, including AI‑assisted workflows

The skills you bring:
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience

  • 2+ years of people management experience with ownership of team outcomes

  • Proven track record of delivering high‑quality software in a predictable way

  • Strong experience in system design and distributed architectures

  • Ability to balance process and pragmatism — improving quality without adding unnecessary complexity

  • Experience with modern cloud environments (AWS or similar), CI/CD, and containerisation

  • Familiarity with observability and operational excellence practices

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills (English required; German is a plus)

  • Curiosity and adaptability to quickly learn new technologies and domains

Our Tech stack:

Our primary stack includes .NET, C#, AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, ECS/Fargate), Docker, GitHub, CircleCI, and Terraform.

Location & setup
  • Berlin, Germany

  • Cross‑functional product team

  • Hands‑on leadership role combining technical contribution and people management

Note from the Hiring Manager:

You will lead one of the most technically ambitious initiatives in the company: a ground‑up rebuild of the core platform domain that powers every listing across our classifieds. This is not an incremental improvement project, it is a full‑scale architectural transformation from scratch, and you will be at the center of it.

Your team owns the foundation the entire business runs on. You will drive decisions affecting millions of data rows, shape services handling thousands of requests per second, and guide engineers through hard problems like sharded PostgreSQL at terabyte scale and high‑throughput distributed systems.

This role is for a leader who wants real ownership, deep product domain involvement, and technical depth that most EM positions never get close to.

At AVIV, we are an equal opportunities employer and an organisation where everyone is welcomed to be their authentic selves. We strongly encourage individuals with visible and non‑visible disabilities, all educational backgrounds, people from minority backgrounds, those from the LGBTQIA+ community and parents and carers to apply. If you need reasonable adjustments at any point in the application or interview process, or wish to discuss part time or flexible working requirements, please let us know.

In your application, please feel free to note which pronouns you use (For example - she/her/hers, he/him/his, they/them/theirs, etc).
