Your mission
As the Engineering Manager for the newly formed Growth Squad, you will lead a strategically vital team focused on accelerating the product-led growth of deskbird, Europe’s fastest-evolving workplace experience platform. You’ll empower your squad, foster efficient delivery processes, and stay hands-on in building key features across the frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure. Your time will be split approximately 50/50 between leading and developing your team and contributing directly to technical solutions.
In this role you will
- Accelerate the growth of deskbird by empowering users to discover and purchase products independently, reducing reliance on Sales and Customer Experience.
- Lead and mentor the ~4 engineers in the Growth Squad by facilitating team meetings, driving continuous improvement, and conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and personal development conversations. You'll work closely with a Product Manager and a Designer, who are embedded in the squad but report to the Product department.
- Actively contribute full-stack solutions across the Angular frontend, Node.js backend, and GCP infrastructure directly impacting our 100,000+ monthly active users.
- Foster a culture of end-to-end ownership, from rapid experimentation to building scalable, measurable solutions.
- Use prototypes to quickly test ideas and validate solutions, then build robust, scalable systems for long-term impact.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, UX, and other engineering squads to align on growth strategies and technical best practices.
What you need to be successful
- 5+ years of experience in full-stack web application development (Angular and Node.js preferred).
- Proven experience leading engineers and projects as a Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or in a similar role.
- Strong end-user focus with a clear bias toward experimentation, measurement, and iterative development.
- Ability to judge when to move fast with prototypes and when to invest in long-term, scalable engineering.
- Excellent communicator, fluent in English (both written and spoken), with strong stakeholder alignment skills.
- Solid understanding of the latest developments in AI code generation, with hands-on experience using state-of-the-art tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot; ideally also Cursor or Windsurf).
- The following are a plus:
- Background or experience in product-led growth initiatives (e.g., self-service onboarding, trials, upselling).
- Experience working with GCP/Firebase.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
