Trawa, a pioneering company in energy flexibility trading, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead and enhance their skilled team. This role encompasses team management, architectural leadership, and hands-on implementation within a fast-paced environment utilizing Python and cloud technology. You’ll drive impactful projects aimed at optimizing energy solutions while nurturing an innovative culture. Join us to contribute significantly to energy transitions and enjoy superior benefits including a robust learning budget and flexible working arrangements.
We're on a mission to unlock flexibility in the energy system. Our software enables businesses to shift and optimize energy usage in real time — from reducing peak demand to trading energy directly on the market. As Engineering Manager for Flexibility Trading, you will lead a very talented cross-functional team building the core of our energy trading stack: from predictive algorithms and optimization engines to secure and scalable backend services that automate market transactions.
You’ll lead and grow a team working at the intersection of machine learning, optimization, and cloud-native backend infrastructure — helping our customers actively participate in the energy transition.
You will lead engineering efforts across three key areas:
Drive delivery of high-impact milestones through structured weekly processes
Plan initiatives in alignment with product, backend and trading teams
Actively unblock the team, enabling engineers to focus on what matters
Foster a culture of technical ownership and continuous improvement
Guide architectural decisions and ensure long-term system health
Maintain a high bar for engineering quality: test coverage, maintainability, documentation
Collaborate closely with data scientists and backend engineers to integrate ML & optimization algorithms
Own our backend architecture, balancing scalability with performance
Contribute to important but non-urgent feature development
Improve developer experience, tooling and technical hygiene
Jump into backend and infrastructure challenges when needed
Languages: Python (primary), TypeScript
Infra: AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Airflow
Data/ML: Pandera, ML & Optimization frameworks
2-3+ years of engineering leadership with a track record of leading strong teams
Strong technical background in Python backend engineering and cloud infrastructure
At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering
Experience working with ML or optimization models in production systems
Strong mathematical thinking and analytical mindset
Excellent communication and prioritization skills
Creative, curious, and self-driven — you take ownership from day one
Experience in energy trading, electricity markets, or time-series forecasting
Background in mathematicaloptimization or power systems modeling
Familiarity with event-driven architectures or distributed systems
