About The Role:

We're looking for an Engineering Lead Manager, Data Science to support our Machine Learning and Optimization organization with ownership over the research, development, and production of our ML and data science algorithms and usage of our data pipelines. Our systems process over 450 billion auction events.

This position reports directly to the VP, Machine Learning based in Berlin and will work closely with members of the engineering and product teams.

Index's scale spans the globe, with transactions happening 24x7 in our global data centers, evaluating millions of requests every second. Achieving our mission requires global efficiency and reliability, where every millisecond counts.

What We're Looking For:

• Technical Leadership: Experience in charting a technical path for products, systems, and architectures. Hands-on coding skills are valued, but leading from the front and guiding others is key. You represent the technical health and future of your products and apply industry best practices.
• People Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor data scientists and machine learning engineers. Set a technical vision that empowers your team to make impactful contributions.
• Broad Scope Handler: Comfortable managing multiple projects at different maturity levels, prioritizing impact, and proactively reporting progress and delays.
• Outcome Driver: Ability to establish a vision, set direction, and guide your team through execution, using data to inform decisions and partnering with product teams for roadmaps and goals.
• End-to-End Ownership: Pride in your team's products, ensuring their quality, health, and outcomes, and leading response and mitigation efforts when issues arise.
• Organizational Coordinator: Act as the primary contact for your team and products, fostering collaboration, unblocking dependencies, and celebrating successes.

Here's What You Need:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Leadership and management experience with 3-10 person teams.
• Passion for cutting-edge technologies, leading teams, and nurturing talent.
• Experience in visualizing and articulating data science approaches, test, and production results.
• Experience with ML and data science platforms and technologies.
• Experience building and managing ML data pipelines.
• Data preparation, cleaning, and enrichment skills.
• Knowledge of big data tools like Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Airflow, and data warehouses like Vertica.
• Familiarity with BI tools such as Looker or Redash is helpful.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
