Job Description: Engineering Lead Manager, Data Science at Index Exchange

We are seeking an Engineering Lead Manager, Data Science to oversee our Machine Learning and Optimization organization. This role involves ownership of research, development, and deployment of ML and data science algorithms, managing data pipelines processing over 450 billion auction events.

This position reports directly to the VP, Machine Learning, based in Berlin, and collaborates closely with engineering and product teams globally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for products, systems, and architecture, balancing hands-on involvement with team guidance.
• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and ML engineers, setting a clear technical vision and fostering impact.
• Manage multiple projects across different maturity levels, ensuring high impact and effective prioritization.
• Drive outcomes by establishing visions, setting roadmaps, and partnering with product teams to meet technical and business goals.
• Own the quality, health, and delivery of your team's products, ensuring operational excellence and addressing issues proactively.
• Coordinate organizational efforts, unblock dependencies, and communicate achievements to stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Leadership experience managing teams of 3-10 members.
• Passion for cutting-edge technologies and talent development.
• Proven experience in data visualization, ML platforms, and data pipeline management.
• Knowledge of big data tools (Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Airflow) and data warehouses (Vertica).
• Familiarity with BI tools like Looker or Redash; experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
