Prime Data Centers - Engineering Design Manager

Prime Data Centers develops, acquires, and operates data centers for some of the world's largest enterprises. Owned by a private firm managing $6 billion in assets, Prime offers customers ownership options and dynamic leasing models, fostering true corporate partnerships.

The Engineering Design Manager, reporting to the SVP of Development and Construction, is responsible for design decisions across a portfolio of data center projects, including new construction, phased expansions, retrofits, upgrades, and acquisition conversions. The role involves mechanical equipment selection, development of design standards, processes, and procedures.

This position will develop long-term business strategies aligned with Prime stakeholders to manage relationships and outputs of key design partners and equipment suppliers. Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading innovation, master planning, concept design, standards, and technical reviews.
  2. Managing regional design teams to adopt standards and best practices.
  3. Collaborating with construction and procurement teams for effective procurement, installation, and commissioning of design solutions.
  4. Working with operations teams to ensure design standards meet operational requirements.
  5. Supporting site operations through troubleshooting and system tuning.
  6. Developing a roadmap for innovation, exploring new products and services, and integrating them into standards.
  7. Creating designs and core philosophies emphasizing reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
  8. Providing master planning and concept designs for investment planning, review, and approval.
  9. Overseeing detailed technical reviews to ensure project designs meet standards and business cases.
  10. Collaborating cross-functionally with Construction, Procurement, Operations, Sales, and other departments to align design requirements.
  11. Leading mechanical design efforts for new data centers, ensuring standards and customer requirements are met.
  12. Coordinating with consultants and contractors on engineering studies and design reviews.
  13. Conducting site visits for investigations and coordination meetings.
  14. Serving as Subject Matter Expert for technical reviews, including engineering studies and analyses.
  15. Managing internal and external design teams and consultants.
  16. Ensuring products meet engineering standards and specifications through team meetings.
  17. Utilizing engineering analysis tools, such as CFD and psychrometric evaluations, to optimize designs.
  18. Calculating Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and participating in critical equipment testing.
  19. Researching new materials and construction methods for HVAC and related components.
  20. Traveling to data center sites for studies, audits, testing, and commissioning as needed.
  21. Responding to emergencies on an as-needed basis.
