Zusammenfassung

Aurubis is seeking an Engineer Refractories (m/f/d) based in Hamburg to provide technical ownership of refractory linings in metallurgical high‑temperature processes. You will plan inspections, evaluate materials, and coordinate repairs in collaboration with production, maintenance and site teams.

You bring a degree in metallurgy/materials science or a related discipline and relevant experience in refractory engineering or lining technology.

Qualifikationen

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering (or a comparable technical discipline).
  • First relevant professional experience in refractory engineering, industrial ceramics furnace or lining technology, ideally in non‑ferrous metallurgy, steel, cement, glass or another high‑temperature process industry.
  • Knowledge of refractory materials, wear mechanisms and the design, selection and assessment of lining systems; experience with inspections and failure analysis is a strong advantage.
  • Understanding of the interaction between metallurgical processes, equipment and refractory materials and the ability to translate complex technical data into well-founded, economically viable recommendations.
  • Analytical and independent work style, clear communication with technical and operational stakeholders, and collaboration in interdisciplinary, international teams.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, willingness to travel to national and international Aurubis sites, ideally with good German language skills.

Aufgaben

  • Provide technical ownership for refractory linings and systems used in metallurgical high‑temperature processes, from material selection and design review to performance assessment.
  • Plan and conduct inspections, condition assessments and damage analyses, and derive practical measures to improve plant availability, operational safety and lining service life.
  • Prepare, coordinate and document refractory repairs, relinings and new installations in close cooperation with production, maintenance, engineering and site teams.
  • Evaluate refractory materials, suppliers and application concepts using technical specifications, quality requirements, lifecycle cost and operating data.
  • Analyse wear patterns, campaign life and performance indicators, identify improvement potential and develop standards and best‑practice solutions for use across the Group.
  • Contribute refractory expertise to investment and optimization projects and collaborate with external suppliers and service partners at national and international Aurubis sites.

Your Profile
  • You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemical engineering mechanical engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
  • You bring first relevant professional experience in refractory engineering, industrial ceramics furnace or lining technology, ideally in non-ferrous metallurgy, steel, cement, glass or another high-temperature process industry.
  • You have knowledge of refractory materials, wear mechanisms and the design, selection and assessment of lining systems; experience with inspections and failure analysis is a strong advantage.
