A leading automotive company is seeking an Automotive Design Engineer to design and develop plastic trim parts and assemblies. This role requires strong analytical skills and collaboration with multiple teams to ensure optimum performance and manufacturing efficiency. Ideal candidates will hold a relevant degree and have at least 3 years of experience in automotive design.
Job Description:
Responsible for designing and developing automotive plastic trim parts and assemblies, including Side Door Exterior Rocker Trims, glass run channels, close-out panels, Hood Trims, Liftgate trims, and Spoiler Systems. Manage polymer-related aspects from concept to production.
Design with excellence at system and component levels, focusing on performance, size, weight, durability, and cost optimization.
Collaborate closely with internal teams and external suppliers, utilizing creativity and teamwork to integrate multiple systems efficiently.
Work with stakeholders across the company, including Vehicle Safety, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design Studio, to create world-class designs.
Interpret analysis results from CAE teams to guide design evolution.
Ensure manufacturing efficiency and build quality through close collaboration with manufacturing teams.
Coordinate with various departments on tooling, secondary component changes, and quality assurance.
Develop testing plans and oversee physical testing to validate design performance.
Analyze section properties, materials, and manufacturing processes through benchmarking.
Manage virtual and physical validation testing activities.
Communicate effectively with suppliers and coordinate activities.
Provide guidance and negotiate solutions within teams.
Use GD&T to determine tolerances.
Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
