Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As Employee & Labor Relations Consultant, you will support all employee and labor relations projects in Germany and Austria. You will contribute to constructive collaboration with the works council, help shape our culture of fairness, and provide expertise to business leaders and colleagues.

Our Colleague & Labor Relations department (CLR) is part of the wider Human Resources team at American Express. We collaborate closely with business leaders, the Country Executive Team, and many other departments (e.g., Legal, Compliance, local and international project teams).

Reporting to the Manager, Colleague and Labor Relations for Germany & Austria, you will support the local and international pro-active CLR agenda by:

  1. Leading and supporting works council consultations on initiatives such as new IT systems, compensation programs, re-organizations, and other projects.
  2. Providing guidance on collective and individual labor law aspects for Germany and Austria.
  3. Developing and updating works council agreements, contract templates, and guidelines.
  4. Supporting disciplinary case management.
  5. Participating in global CLR initiatives and projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • University degree (Staatsexamen, Magister/Magistra in law, L.L.M. in German labor or economic law) and at least 4 years of experience in employee relations or HR generalist roles, or as a labor law professional.
  • Advanced knowledge of German and preferably Austrian labor law, both collective and individual.
  • Experience working with works councils, ideally in a highly matrixed multinational environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise across all organizational levels.
  • Attention to detail and understanding of broader implications of issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in German and English, both written and verbal.

We support our colleagues and their loved ones with benefits and programs that promote holistic well-being, prioritizing physical, financial, and mental health at every life stage. Benefits include:

  • Competitive base salaries
  • Bonus incentives
  • Support for financial well-being and retirement
  • Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid and virtual options with Amex Flex
  • Onsite and online Healthy Living activities, webinars, and screening opportunities
  • Onsite Healthy Living room for exercise and relaxation, including massages
  • Parental perks such as breastfeeding rooms, emergency childcare, and allowances
  • Workplace health consultations from Occupational Doctors
  • Confidential counselling support via Healthy Minds
  • Career development and training opportunities

Amex Flex offers flexibility for colleagues to thrive both personally and professionally, maintaining our in-person culture. In Germany, we have an agreement with the works council outlining specific guidelines for Amex Flex. Depending on the role and business needs, colleagues may work onsite, in a hybrid model, or fully virtually.

Offer of employment is contingent upon successful background verification, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
