Job description

About MONA Motors

MONA Motors GmbH is a German company specializing in innovative electric utility vehicles and energy solutions. Our mission is to develop practical, efficient, and sustainable technologies for agricultural, industrial, and commercial applications.

To strengthen our engineering team, we are looking for a skilled and motivated Embedded Systems Engineer (m/f/d) with a strong focus on embedded software development, Vehicle Control Units (VCUs), and telematics systems for our electric wheel loaders.

Your Responsibilities

As an Embedded Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in developing, programming, integrating, and optimizing the electronic control systems of our electric wheel loaders.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • VCU Software Development: Develop, program, test, and optimize embedded software for Vehicle Control Units (VCUs) used in electric wheel loaders.

  • Vehicle Control Functions: Implement control strategies for electric drive systems, motor controllers, battery management systems (BMS), charging systems, and vehicle operating functions.

  • Telematics (T-Box): Develop and integrate telematics solutions for vehicle monitoring, GPS positioning, remote diagnostics, operating data acquisition, and communication with cloud-based platforms.

  • CAN Bus Communication: Develop, configure, and troubleshoot CAN-based communication between vehicle components, including VCU, BMS, motor controllers, displays, and telematics modules.

  • Embedded Software Integration: Integrate software and hardware components into reliable and efficient vehicle control architectures.

  • Testing & Validation: Conduct functional testing, system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and software validation on prototypes and production vehicles.

  • Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with international hardware and software suppliers, particularly in China, to define technical requirements, resolve integration issues, and implement product improvements.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare software specifications, interface descriptions, test reports, and technical documentation.

  • Product Development: Support the continuous improvement of our electric wheel loaders, focusing on reliability, performance, energy efficiency, and user experience.

Your Qualifications

Required:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a comparable technical discipline.

  • Practical experience in embedded software development, preferable in electric vehicles, mobile machinery, or industrial equipment.

  • Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++.

  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded controllers, and real-time systems.

  • Good understanding of CAN Bus communication, including CAN 2.0, CAN FD, and preferably CANopen or SAE J1939.

  • Experience with vehicle control systems, motor controllers, or battery management systems.

  • Knowledge of embedded software debugging, testing, and diagnostic tools.

  • Good English communication skills.

  • Experience in programming and calibrating Vehicle Control Units (VCUs).

  • Experience with telematics control units (T-Box), GPS/GNSS, LTE/4G/5G, MQTT, and IoT communication protocols.

  • Familiarity with electric powertrains, lithium-ion battery systems, and charging technologies.

  • Experience with automotive or off-highway diagnostic protocols, such as UDS.

  • Knowledge of Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or model-based software development.

  • Experience with embedded Linux or RTOS environments.

  • Familiarity with functional safety principles and relevant standards for mobile machinery.

  • Experience working with international engineering teams and suppliers, particularly in China.

  • German language skills are an advantage.

What We Offer
  • The opportunity to work on innovative electric wheel loaders and contribute directly to their technical development.

  • A hands-on engineering position with responsibility for real products and practical applications.

  • A dynamic environment with short decision-making processes.
