Jobbeschreibung

The Institute of Communications and Navigation at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selected areas of communications and navigation. The work ranges from theoretical foundations to the demonstration of new procedures and systems in a real environment and is embedded in the DLR programs Space, Aeronautics, Transport, Security, and Digitalization.

The Nautical Systems Department

The Nautical Systems department of the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation develops and tests new procedures and technologies for shore-based and on-board support in ship navigation.

What The Tasks Involve

The Maritime Services working group focuses on alternative terrestrial navigation systems that complement global navigation satellite systems and enable navigation even under disturbed conditions. We are developing the maritime navigation system R-Mode and the appropriate receiver technology to meet the needs of maritime service providers and users. We offer flexible working conditions, including mobile working options and flexible hours within core working times.

Your Tasks
  • Develop radio-based alternative methods for maritime navigation and provide time for maritime infrastructures.
  • Develop, implement, and validate real-time algorithms for measuring and mitigating sky-waves in the medium frequency range.
  • Establish a network of measuring stations with receivers capable of measuring sky-waves.
  • Perform statistical analysis of measurement results and predict the influence of interference on navigation system performance.
  • Assume project responsibilities.
Your Profile
  • Hold a master's degree in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, communications engineering, or a related field, with a completed PhD.
  • Have in-depth expertise in radio navigation or signal processing.
  • Possess extensive experience with Software Defined Radio (SDR) programming in Python and C++.
  • Have several years of practical experience in project acquisition, international team project work, and scientific publications.
  • Demonstrate an independent, creative, and goal-oriented work style with strong analytical skills.
  • Be willing to undertake business trips.
  • Have good proficiency in written and spoken German and English.
