Postdoctoral Researcher in Translational Interventional Oncology (m/f/d)
Klinik und Poliklinik für Radiologie

Scope of duties

The Department of Radiology is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge interventional oncology techniques, bridging the gap between laboratory research and clinical application.

The Translational Interventional Oncology research group investigates the systemic effects of local tumor therapy and its implications for tumor progression and immune response. Our research challenges the traditional understanding that locoregional tumor treatment only has localized effects and explores how these treatments induce both pro-immunogenic and pro-tumorigenic systemic changes. Through strong international collaborations, particularly with the Goldyne Savad Institute of Gene Therapy in Jerusalem, Israel, we are dedicated to identifying and mitigating unwanted systemic effects of interventional oncologic treatments.

We believe that excellent research requires a range of different perspectives. Diverse teams reach better solutions and are more innovative in their research topics. We offer a dynamic, multicultural, interdisciplinary, and highly collaborative research environment in Munich, one of the world's most livable cities. To support our mission, we are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics to contribute to our work in developing novel therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment.

Your Tasks:

Research directions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigation of molecular and cellular mechanisms of tumor response to interventional therapies, including the identification of pro-immunogenic and pro-tumorigenic pathways
  • Application of translational research methodologies to bridge experimental findings with clinical applications, ensuring innovative approaches lead to improved patient outcomes
  • Integration of findings into translational research, collaborating closely with clinicians, imaging specialists, and bioinformaticians to optimize interventional oncology treatments
  • Supervision and mentorship of PhD and medical students, fostering their development and guiding them in their research projects

Our requirements

  • A PhD in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or a related field
  • Strong publication record and experience in basic science or translational research
  • Background in molecular oncology, tumor biology, liver-focused or immune-focused research, or computational biology
  • Experience with multi-omics data analysis or AI-driven biomedical research is a plus
  • Interest in tumor microenvironment, immune response, and systemic effects of local therapies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Our offer

  • The position offers a dynamic, international, and interdisciplinary research environment at LMU Klinikum, one of Europe’s leading medical institutions.
  • State-of-the-art facilities are available, including imaging, molecular biology, and computational resources.
  • Collaboration with international partners is a key part of the role, including leading experts in interventional oncology and tumor biology.
  • You will benefit from opportunities for career development, including mentorship, grant writing support, and networking.
  • Flexible working hours are offered; the workload is 38.5 hours per week for a full-time position.
  • Remuneration is based on the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Länder (TV-L) including all allowances customary in the public sector.
  • In addition we offer further education and training, a company pension scheme, childcare services, mobile work (if suitable), a job ticket, discounts, and staff accommodation (if available).

We are committed to promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from talented individuals regardless of gender, cultural background, nationality, ethnicity, sexual identity, physical abilities, religion, or age. Disabled persons will be preferentially considered in case of equal qualification. Presentation costs cannot be refunded.

Please send a cover letter, a CV, a summary of previous research experience and future research interests (max. 2 pages), a list of publications (please highlight up to three with a brief explanation of their impact), and contact details of two referees. For further information please contact Dr. Matthias Stechele, phone +49 89 4400 - 73620.
