The Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany, is a leading research institution in private law and private international law. We are offering a position as:
As head of the Centre, you will research legal developments in West Asia, North Africa, South and Southeast Asia from a comparative perspective. You will organize conferences, projects, talks, and exchange programs for early career researchers. Your regional expertise will contribute to the institute's comparative projects. You will support the library's acquisition of relevant literature and build partnerships with researchers in the studied regions. You are expected to publish regularly in leading journals and support German courts with expert opinions on foreign law. You will have opportunities for independent research and career development.
You hold an outstanding legal doctorate with distinction, specializing in the law of Arab and Islamic countries. You have a strong interest in private international and comparative law. Fluency in Arabic is required; proficiency in Persian is an asset. You are fluent in English and willing to learn German.

The position is for six years, extendable by three. Salary and benefits follow the German civil service (W2) scale, based on qualifications.
