About us :
We are Climate Accountability API , a small non-profit organization based in Berlin. Currently, we are the world’s leading provider of real-time data (APIs) on global warming and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. We serve around 80k software applications at no cost. Recently, we were honored to win the national competition for " The E.ON Foundation's European Climate Fund " securing a €10,000 prize. These funds will be used to develop our prototype : a suite of software solutions designed to inform the public about the environmental impact of businesses operating in the European Union. By empowering individuals with this information, we aim to shift resources away from carbon-intensive businesses toward more green alternatives, accelerating the transition to a sustainable future.
Skills :
Database Design and Management
Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
Knowledge of data modeling and schema design for structured and unstructured data.
Knowledge of cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
Familiarity with ML / AI tools (e.g., Amazon SageMaker, Databricks, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn).
Data Engineering and ETL Processes
Expertise in building and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines.
Proficiency in data integration, cleaning, and preprocessing.
Familiarity with tools like Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, or Airflow.
Familiarity with big data frameworks (e.g., Apache Hadoop, Spark, Flink) or similar.
Understanding of distributed computing principles and technologies.
Programming Skills :
Proficiency in Python, Java, Scala, or similar.
Familiarity with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
Knowledge of scripting for automation and task orchestration.
Data Security and Privacy :
Understanding of data security best practices.
Familiarity with GDPR and other data privacy regulations, preferably in the context of ESG data management.
Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps
Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure).
Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
Experience working with version control systems such as Git.
Nice to have :
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs for data access.
Knowledge of API authentication (OAuth, JWT) and versioning.
Familiarity with API documentation and data formats like JSON and XML.
Basic understanding of ESG data requirements, standards, and metrics.
Familiarity with relevant frameworks (e.g., Global Reporting Initiative, CDP, CSRD).

Compensation and Benefits :
While we are not yet in a position to offer full-time employment, this role begins with a short-term contract focused on developing the prototype. Given the essential role of the data engineer in our organization, once we secure additional funds, we will extend a mini-job contract after the initial work is completed to ensure ongoing maintenance of the database.
As our funding grows, we are committed to transitioning this role into a full-time position within the organization.
